Café Coffee `sports' store in Pune

Our Bureau

MR NARESH MALHOTRA

Bangalore, June 13

Café Coffee Day will soon set up a `sports' café in Pune. Apart from selling merchandise associated with sports, the 2,500-sq ft café will have a sporty `look and feel.' The Pune store is an "experiment" and we will later expand further based on consumer response, said Mr Naresh Malhotra, CEO, Café Coffee Day.

He added that the company was talking to `sports' brands for possible co-branding tie-ups. The sports café concept is similar to Café Coffee Day's concept stores around books and music and its garden cafés. The company has tie-ups with bookstores Crossword, Odyssey and Book Café and Music World for its concept stores. The concept stores form about 20 per cent of Café Coffee Days' retail network of 430 cafés. The company also has 500 express outlets. "By September we will have 500 cafés and 700 express outlets. We are right now opening about 20-25 cafés a month. After September, we will open one café per day," said Mr Malhotra.
