Pune June 18 Tata Motors will begin manufacture of the Ace range of vehicles, including the newly launched Magic, at the company's new manufacturing facility at Uttarakhand. The Winger, however, will be produced at the Pimpri plant. Mr Shyam Mani, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, said that the new plant was ready and would begin manufacturing soon. He refused to set a date. "The plant has an installed capacity of 225,000 vehicles annually, and will begin with 5-7,000 vehicles per month." Currently, the Ace vehicles are being manufactured at Pimpri, which can produce up to 1,00,000 units annually. "Last year we sold around 70,000 units," Mr Mani said. Though the company proposes to market the Magic domestically, it is not ruling out other markets. "Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have similar conditions, and we may look at exporting to these countries later," said Mr Telang, Executive Director, Commercial Vehicles. The company has invested Rs 150-200 crore in putting up each of the two product lines, Mr Telang added. This included Rs 80 crore on purchase of figs and fixtures of the Renault van, Traffic, from the French car manufacturer. The vehicle, which is now fully localised, has to undergo several modifications to suit Indian road conditions.
