In the event of a theft or the handset getting misplaced, the user is informed about the new mobile number with the current location of the handset through an SMS alert.
New Delhi June 25 Next time you lose your mobile phone you could actually get to know not only the location of the handset but also the mobile number of the person using your handset. Mumbai-based Micro Technologies India Ltd has developed a micro lost-mobile tracking system that aims at increasing the security of mobile handsets. The application works on GSM technology. The software, which is loaded into the user's mobile phone, in the event of a theft or the handset getting misplaced, informs the user about the new mobile number with the current location of the handset through an SMS alert along with an e-mail to the original user's email address. To begin with, the company has agreed to offer the technology to Bharti Airtel in Delhi. Airtel subscribers will be able to subscribe for the tracking service by contacting the service provider. "This tie-up would be beneficial for all. While Airtel subscribers will experience a high-end technology, the company will expand its reach to a large number of mobile subscribers," said a release from Micro Tech. Bharti Airtel executives were not available for comments Earlier, another Mumbai-based firm Innova Technologies had announced its Virtual Mobile Security, which once loaded in a cell phone safeguards the images, phone numbers, short messages and others stored from being accessed by others. It also helps the owner to retrieve the stored numbers via SMS. The software also provides the identity of the new SIM card and the geographical location, service provider, cell site identity, where the handset is being used to the alternate numbers provided by the owner. Micro Tech had earlier launched a tracking device for lost vehicles. It had partnered with Bhatri Airtel for this service whereby the vehicle owner would be alerted through an SMS in case the car's security system was being tampered with.
