Railways WiFi at Bangalore, Jaipur Rly stations
Our Bureau New Delhi, June 29 RailTel plans to install Wi-Fi for providing wireless access at Bangalore and Jaipur over the next few months. “Though we are preparing to install Wi-Fi System at 500 stations across the country, initially we will be doing so at 50 stations,” Mr K.K. Bajpayee, Managing Director, RailTel, told reporters here. He said one such system would be first provided at the Bangalore Railway station, which would be operational within the next two-to-three months followed by Jaipur. RailTel has tied up with Airlink, a Bangalore-based company, for the services. For installing this service, Airlink would be incurring the expenditure and RailTel would not be required to put in any investments. However, Railtel would take a certain revenue share from Airlink. Mr Bajpeyee declined to share the revenue share details. RailTel also announced that it has registered its first net profit of Rs 33.28 crore in 2006-07. The Railway Ministry’s telecom subsidiary registered a total income of Rs 113.29 crore in 2006-07 against Rs 60.44 crore in the previous fiscal.
