Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 3 The joint taskforce set up by India and Japan for the proposed Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project has been directed to finalise a concept paper for the project before the Japanese Prime Minister, Mr Shinzo Abe’s scheduled visit to India next month.

The taskforce was directed to finalise the paper jointly by the Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath, and the Trade and Industry Minister of Japan, Mr Akira Amari, who is currently visiting India.

The Japanese Prime Minister is scheduled to come to India in the fourth week of August as part of his three-nation tour. The Japanese leader will travel first to Indonesia, then to India and Malaysia for one week beginning August 19.

Japanese Depository scheme

The two Ministers, who met here today, welcomed the announcement of Tokyo Stock Exchange to introduce the Japanese Depository Receipt scheme. India can become a first destination for such scheme that can be also utilised as one of the financial resources for the development of the DMIC project, an official release said.

During the course of the meeting, the Ministers exchanged views on the DMIC project, which is a flagship cooperation project between the two countries, based on the discussions at the taskforce for the DMIC project, co-chaired by the Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion and the Vice-Minister in the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry of Japan.
