New Delhi, July 5 Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Thursday said that it expected to export 50,000 units of Santro as completely knocked down units to CIS countries, Russia and Taiwan from next year. Exports to these new geographies would be made from its second plant, likely to be commissioned by the end of this year. At present it has a plant near Chennai which serves its European market.

The company also said that it has increased the price of the diesel variant of its base model sedan Verna by Rs 7,983 and by Rs 8,350 for its top-end model on the existing ex showroom price

“The price hike is applicable only for the diesel variant. The prices of the petrol variant will remain unchanged,” said a company official.

The company on Wednesday also launched Santro in CNG (compressed natural gas) variant priced at Rs 3,25,361 (ex-showroom Delhi). Initially, the Santro CNG variant would be available in Delhi and at a later stage would be rolled out across other cities.

It has tied up with CNG kit supplier Minda Auto Gas Ltd to supply the kits. “We feel that with the fuel being eco friendly and reducing the running cost, it will increase the attractiveness of the Santro,” said Mr Arvind Saxena, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, HMIL, in a statement here.

Warranties

Santro CNG would have a two-year unlimited mileage warranty and there would also be an additional warranty for the same period on the CNG kit and fitment. The car would be equipped with a manual selector switch that would enable the driver to easily switch from gasoline to CNG and vice versa, making it possible to run both on petrol and CNG.

The CNG cylinder has a capacity of approximately 12 kg and with the running cost estimated to be in the range of Re 1 per kilometre, it is expected to result into savings of almost 60-70 per cent for the consumer, said the company.

Santro CNG would compete with Maruti’s Wagon R duo being offered in the LPG variant.
