Credit Market States - Kerala 30% rise in Kerala primary sector credit disbursements
Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, July 9 There has been a rise of 30.10 per cent in credit disbursements to the primary sector by the banking sector in Kerala during 2006-07. The disbursements to the sector during the year amounted to Rs 11,906.13 crore as against Rs 9151.61 crore in the previous year. This was 123.45 per cent of the target of Rs 9,644.70 crore fixed for the year. Also, the primary sector accounted for 42.95 per cent of the total disbursements under the priority sector. As per the figures made available at the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) meeting held here recently, 30.22 per cent of the total disbursements to the primary sector was contributed by the co-operative sector. Among the commercial banks, State Bank of Travancore (SBT) disbursed the highest quantum of Rs 1,598.90 crore, followed by Canara Bank with Rs 1,153.62 crore. BREAK-UP
The highest disbursement to the primary sector was done in Kozhikode district, followed by Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram districts. Idukki was the only district that could not achieve the target under the annual credit plan. The secondary sector, which includes the small-scale industries segment, accounted for only 11.57 per cent of the total disbursements under the priority sector. It also achieved only 92.38 per cent of the annual credit target. However, compared with the previous year, there had been an increase of 17.29 per cent in disbursements to the secondary sector. In 2005-06, the disbursements were to the tune of Rs 2,735 crore and this increased to Rs 3,207.82 crore in 2006-07. The nationalised banks disbursed Rs 1,363.62 crore, which was 42.51 per cent of the total disbursements to the sector. Indian Bank led the pack with Rs 790.55 crore. The highest disbursement under the secondary sector was in Kollam district, followed by Thrissur and Ernakulam districts. On the other hand, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Wayanad districts reported less than 50 per cent of the annual targets. Tertiary sector
The tertiary sector accounted for 45.48 per cent of the total disbursements under the priority sector in the State. The total disbursements during the year were to the tune of Rs 12,609.84 crore, which was 112.86 per cent of the target. This was also 46.30 per cent higher than the disbursements in 2005-06.
