KSEB tariff hike issue

Kochi, July 13

The proposed reforms of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), which include hike in tariff for industrial units, would render several industries in the State unviable besides dissuading prospective investors from investing here, according to Mr K. Chandran Pillai, MP and senior CITU leader. Speaking to Business Line on the proposals of the KSEB and the State Electricity Reforms Commission (SERC), Mr Pillai said that the Board was planning to bring i n certain reforms including hike in tariff on the pretext that it had been incurring heavy losses and in a debt trap. The Board has already submitted its proposals to the SERC. In addition, the Commission has already taken a decision to double the tariff during the peak hours from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the industries operating during the night. “Hiking the tariff further will make industrialisation of the State impossible,” said Mr Pillai.—
