GoM on civil aviation to meet in Aug

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 17 The 10-member Group of Ministers (GoM), formed to frame a new civil aviation policy, is to hold its first meeting in August this year. Official sources said that the meeting is likely to be held on either August 14 or August 20 depending on the availability of all the Ministers.

The policy, referred to as Vision 2020, was referred to the GoM after some Cabinet members objected to certain specific proposals mooted in the policy including allowing more domestic airlines abroad, creation of merchant airports and plans to corporatise the air traffic control system.

The Civil Aviation Ministry, however, maintains that the policy was referred to a GoM to allow more consultations between the Government departments. The GoM is headed by the External Affairs Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, and includes the Ministers for Home, Finance, Defence, Urban Development, Tourism, Shipping and Road Transport.
