New Products & Services Kodak launches spectacle lenses in India
Our Bureau Pune, July 20 The national launch for Kodak spectacle lenses has begun from Pune by Prime Lenses – an lenses export company. Addressing presspersons, Mr Vikram Gupta, Managing Director, Prime Lenses, said it would be offering to the consumers about 50 options from the Kodak range to begin with. Kodak has about 100 options and these would be brought to the Indian market, he said. Mr Vikram said it would be moving to Hyderabad and Mumbai next and the national rollout is expected to be completed by October. He said the target customers for these lenses would be the middle- and upper middleclass as the range of the spectacles begins from Rs 1,300. He said the turnover that the company is looking at from this range is about Rs 5 crore and is estimating a growth of 50 per cent every year. The spectacle market size is Rs 2,000 crore. Mr Vikram said it would be importing all the lenses but would be manufacturing the bifocals from India. The company has nine manufacturing facilities in the country, which includes the four metros, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Goa. He said it was also in the process of setting up a manufacturing facility at Dubai. The investment would be about $1 million and would be operational by the end of the current calendar year.
