New Delhi, July 25 Indian Railways has reduced the e-ticket service charges by Rs 5 with effect from July 1.

The minimum charge of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for e-tickets for sleeper and second class has been reduced from Rs 15 to Rs 10 per ticket, according to a press release. However, there is a levy of Rs 5 for each additional passenger, subject to a maximum of Rs 25. Bookings for a maximum of six passengers is allowed per ticket.

For air-conditioned classes, minimum charges have been dropped to Rs 20 from Rs 25 per ticket. And for each additional passenger (other than the first passenger), Rs 5 per person is levied subject to a maximum of Rs 40.

Service charges are lowered for e-tickets issued from agencies like the Rail Travellers Service Agents (RTSA), Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Indian Association of Tour Agents (IATA) members, petrol pumps, ATMs, electronic point of sale (e-pos) and e-seva counters, the release added.

IRCTC, which is authorised to expand e-ticketing facility to outside agencies, has appointed over 8,000 agents to book e-tickets, which include RTSAs, members of IATA and TAAI, petrol pumps of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioners of State Governments, e-seva centres of Andhra Pradesh Government and e-pos through ICICI.

The reserved tickets will also be issued from post offices in the near future, for which the modalities have already been finalised and agreement is likely to be signed by the end of this month.
