Social Welfare States - Kerala Kerala Govt announces subsidies for BPL families
Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, July 27 The Kerala Government has issued guidelines in respect of subsidy benefits being extended by local bodies for a variety of activities under the people’s planning programme during the Eleventh Plan period. The Minister for Local Administration, Mr Paloli Mohammed Kutty, said on Friday that the subsidy parameters had been determined with emphasis on productive sectors, infrastructure development and the welfare of the poor. As per the guidelines, subsidy will not be available to individuals or families for purchase of items such as pressure cooker, television, radio, umbrella, cooking utensils, cooking gas, sewing machines and for purpose of donations. For construction of house, a subsidy of Rs 50,000 will be given to those in the general category, Rs 75,000 to scheduled castes and Rs 1 lakh to scheduled tribes. For renovation of house, SC/ST sections will be given a subsidy of Rs 10,000 and the general category Rs 5,000. All the benefits in respect of housing will be available only to those below the poverty line. The Minister said that subsidy would be given to projects undertaken by milk societies to the extent of 25 to 33 per cent of the cost. This would be to a maximum of Rs 12 lakh and a minimum of Rs 25,000. In the fisheries sector, subsidy of 25 to 50 per cent of the cost will be allowed for various projects. The subsidy amount under this head will be between Rs 25,000 and Rs 8 lakh. The subsidy for coir, khadi, handloom and industrial cooperative sectors had also been revised, the Minister said and added that strict action would be taken against those found violating the guidelines.
