Climate & Weather Agri-Biz & Commodities - Climate & Weather Rainfall surplus down to 4%
Vinson Kurian Thiruvananthapuram, July 27 All-India seasonal rainfall surplus has witnessed further seepage what with Central India and peninsular interior going dry for almost a fortnight now. The area weighted rainfall stands depleted to four per cent as on Wednesday, representing a second successive week-on-week loss by an identical seven percent margin. Still, for the third successive week, the overall rainfall profile classified 29 met sub-divisions in the `excess/normal’ category and only seven in the `deficient’, an update by India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. PROBLEM AREAS
The problem areas are now west Uttar Pradesh (-35 per cent); east Madhya Pradesh (-34 per cent); Himachal Pradesh and Marathwada (-29 per cent each). East Uttar Pradesh also was in the deficient category (-21 per cent). But, Uttar Pradesh as a whole is priming itself for a spell of rain and thundershowers over the next few days thanks to the alignment of the axis of the monsoon trough along the Himalayan foothills and passing through Hardoi, Gaya and Bankura on Friday. Himachal Pradesh will, too, get benefited from the session. The current meteorological analysis also suggests widespread rainfall activity with scattered heavy to very heavy falls over the Gangetic plains and the north-eastern States. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over northwest India. Under the influence of the offshore trough, fairly widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls is likely along the west coast. Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and south Gujarat are expected to be brought under the wet spell.
