JCB eyes solid waste management sector to boost sales

S. Shanker

Mumbai, July 29 JCB India, a construction and mining equipment maker, proposes to tap the solid waste management segment to accelerate sales this year. It is planning to hosta series of seminars on waste management to explore the segment.

The company commands a major market share among backhoe loaders. It has sold over 50,000 machines in the country so far and hopes to achieve a 30 per cent increase in sales in 2008. For 2006, sales was 10,500 machines, and a little over 7,500 units during the first half of this year.

The Haryana-based company is part of the UK-based JC Bamford Excavators Ltd, which makesover 275 models and are sold in about 150 countries. It is planning to sell a range of specialised equipment from abroad to India. The company has a network of 42 dealers and over 250 sales and service outlets in the country.

“We are working with municipal corporations and solid waste management companies across India that are actively involved in solid waste management and in using waste for more important things such as composting and power generation,” says Mr. Amit Gossain, General Manager-Marketing, JCB Ltd.

Some of the models, such as the backhoe loaders, skid steer loaders, JS 80 excavator and JS 200 excavator, have been volume generators for the company. City corporations in Pune, Aurangabad, Surat, Lucknow, Agra, Srinagar, Ludhiana, Guntur, Raipur and Jaipur top its client list.

The output of a machine is roughly 14 times that of a labourer. A diverse range of attachments like sweeper collector, ditch cleaning bucket and submersible trash pumps provide unmatched advantages in terms of productivity and efficiency, says Mr. Gossain.

The company is promoting a submersible trash pump, which can also pump out gravel, sand and solids (up to 75 mm in diameter) along with slush, in excess of 600 gpm (gallons per minute).
