TVS Motor launching 11 vehicles by April

Our Bureau

Chennai, July 31 TVS Motor Company, which reported a 64 per cent drop in its net profit for the April-June quarter, says that the tide will turn in its favour from the current quarter, what with a slew of product of launches.

Eleven products in one year, unprecedented in the history of the company, says Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director of the company. Four of these products will be completely new, while the rest will be different versions of the existing products.

Two of these have already been launched — Apache RTR and Neo, for the Indonesian market. Some of the others are meant to plug gaps in TVS Motors’ product portfolio.

Mr Srinivasan points out that the company is today not present in the 50,000-unit scooter market and in the 225,000-unit ‘executive’ segment, after the petering out of its successful motorcycle Victor.

Therefore, by the end of August, the company will launch two motorcycles in the executive segment, one 100 cc and the other 125 cc. An electric scooter is also to be launched around that date — a regular, ungeared scooter will follow later in the year. Also, a two-stroke engine-powered three-wheeler will be launched before September.

Mr Srinivasan expects that by October, the company’s monthly sales of motorcycles will cross 90,000 units. It sold 47,300 units in June. He expects a 17 per cent share of the ‘executive’ segment.

Later in the year, TVS Motor will put into the market a refurbished Scooty, a 4-stroke 3-wheeler and a 125 cc ‘Neo’ step-through for Indonesia.
