Centre ‘satisfied’ with project implementation in AP

Hyderabad, July 31 The progress of various projects currently under way in Andhra Pradesh involving an investment of over Rs 40,000 crore is “extremely satisfactory”, said Mr P. Chidambaram, Union Minister for Finance.

Speaking to newspersons after a review of major investments in the State here on Tuesday, he said: “We reviewed 10 major projects which are being implemented currently and some which are in the advanced stage of consideration by the Centre.”

“We have noted down responsibilities and timelines for completion. We will take them up with other departments for better coordination,” he said.

‘Impressive presentation’

The State Government had made an impressive presentation to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on various proposals in the sectors such as energy, infrastructure, urban development, road transport and railways. “We also had intense discussion on implementation aspects pertaining to Bhubharati, Arogyashri, gas pipeline for distribution in the State and availability of gas for power projects. We take a positive view,” Mr Chidambaram said.

Terming the day-long review of agriculture and investment programmes in the State as “`a satisfactory and novel experience”, the Union Minister said similar review programmes would be taken up in other States as well.

The ten major projects figured in the discussion include 4,000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project in Krishnapatnam, 520 MW expansion project at Thermal Power Station at Ramagundam, expansion of HPCL refinery, port expansion and the Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) in Visakhapatnam, and upcoming Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Kakinada, mass rapid transport project and Outer Ring Road project in Hyderabad.
