‘Pak cement by year-end’

Our Bureau

New Delhi, August 3 The first tranche of cement from Pakistan would arrive in India by year-end, said Mr Syed Asif Shah, Commerce Secretary of Pakistan.

While speaking at a conference organised by industry chamber FICCI on Friday, he said that India-Pakistan trade is set for a great leap forward with the Governments of the two countries zeroing in on the trade specifics.

“Meaningful progress” has been achieved on the shipping protocol, expansion of bilateral trade by removing non-tariff barriers and para tariffs, import of tea from India and improvement of border infrastructure, he said.

Mr Shah said the two sub-groups on tariff and non-tariff barriers and customs procedures and facilitation have identified the roadblocks such as sanitary and phyto-Sanitary (SPS) measures and stringent standards which are impeding the growth of bilateral trade.

“These sub-groups are devising a roadmap for mutual recognition agreements between the two sides,” he said.
