Maruti raises export target for current fiscal

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Aug 8

Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) has revised its export target for the current fiscal to 55,000 units as compared to about 50,000 units that it had said earlier.

Considering these figures, Maruti’s exports may grow by about 40 per cent as compared to the last year in which the company exported 39,295 units.

The company’s annual report, released on Wednesday said, “The new Zen Estilo launched in Indonesia gets a monthly ordering of 1,000 units.” It also said that its new compact car, to be launched in 2009 for the European market, is estimated to sell one lakh units within the EU itself. Further, MUL also plans to export similar number to non-European markets that would make it to two lakh units in 2009-10.

While some of the cars are being made at Suzuki’s manufacturing base in Hungary to serve the European markets, the new car that Maruti is developing is likely to be built on a new platform and would be manufactured only in the country for the domestic and the global market.
