Trend Micro cautions surfers on Web attacks

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Aug. 10 Trend Micro has cautioned net surfers of hackers on the prowl. The Internet content security software services provider has, after a study of surfing habits, identified certain Web security holes leading to Web attacks.

Summing up the five common surfing habits leading to Web attacks, Trend Micro noted that when people left messages in the surfer’s blog and in return allowed the surfer to do the same to his/her blog, the probability of the site being vulnerable to iFrame security could be high, triggering a series of malicious codes.

Surfing habits

Other common surfing habits include searching the hottest profile introduction in friendship Web sites, sharing secrets with other Internet users and visiting certain avoidable Web sites everyday.

Besides the above, the study also noted that the users tended to click the ‘ok’ button when a pop-up window appeared on the screen. Cautioning users of the implication of such an act and the probability of inadvertently sharing credit card information, the study said, “As Web attack methods are difficult to detect and often identify some specific targets, most of the sites that appear normal may be kidnapped by the malicious code.”
