Sun Microsystems is aiming to triple its services revenues from the Indian market over the next three years as more clients adopt its open source developer platforms and create applications around it. The company currently derives about 18 per cent of its revenues from its services business in India, while the rest comes from products. “We plan to triple our services revenues to around 35 per cent in the next three years,” said Mr Bhaskar Pramanik, President, S un Microsystems India. “The Indian market is not matured as other developed markets, but we see major downloads of our software platforms happening here. We expect this would provide us greater opportunities to offer services as more applications run on our open source platforms,” Mr Pramanik said. While the company does not disclose its India-specific revenues like any other multinational, third party estimates like that of DataQuest indicate that it clocked a revenue of around Rs 1,469 crore in 2006-07. But Sun said its India revenues grew by 35.4 per cent for the fiscal ended June 2007, without disclosing absolute numbers. —
