Good demand for CTCs in Kolkata sale

Last week, CTC teas at the North Indian tea auction centres were in good demand, according to J. Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd, tea auctioneers.

Good liquoring varieties sold around last levels while plainer sorts were firm. Good support to liquoring teas came from western India, with good inquiries from other internal segments.

The major blender and Tata Tea operated with fair strength. The highest price was Rs 128 per kg.

Orthodox varieties saw good demand at firm to occasionally dearer rates following active support from the CIS and West Asia and good inquiries from the major blender, North India and local dealers. The highest price was Rs 485 per kg.

Darjeeling teas continued to experience good demand and were readily absorbed at around last levels.

The highest price recorded was Rs 750 per kg.

CROP PROSPECTS

After consistent heavy rains, the weather condition is normalising and with it, the crop prospect brightening.

INTERNATIONAL

Kenyan markets saw good demand at prices that fluctuated irregularly around last.

In Colombo, Sri Lankan teas saw a slight easing in demand after having remained consistently strong for several weeks. In first six months, the production in Sri Lanka dropped by about 12.7 per cent.
