Mauritius launches package for tourists from Kolkata

‘Aim is to achieve 15-20% growth in tourist inflow’

Kolkata, Aug 19 The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) has launched a new campaign to position the island as a preferred leisure travel destination for tourists from eastern India during the forthcoming pujas.

The ‘Magical Mauritius’ initiative, highlighting convenient and east travel options, including the facility of a 60-day visa on arrival, was launched in technical association with six select travel agents in the city.

The package comes at Rs 40,000 for four nights/five days per person and includes accommodation with meals, return airport transfers and three full-day sightseeing tours.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr Rajeev Nangia, Associate Director, Operations, Trac Representations (India) Pvt Ltd, which represents MTPA in India, said that the package, aimed at people aged 25-45, includes optional water sports activities such as under sea walk, tube flying boat, ride on submerged scooters and banana boat rides.

The MTPA has specially designed the package to make travellers, including the well-heeled frequent individual travellers from the city, feel at home while vacationing in Mauritius. Pointing out that Mauritius offered Indian, French, Dutch and Portugese cuisine, Mr Nangia said that in 2006, 37,498 Indian tourists visited Mauritius, a growth of nearly 26 per cent.

Stating that the package was aimed at the premium niche segment, he said that the aim was to achieve 15-20 per cent growth in tourist inflow.

Mr Nangia also said that Trac was promoting Sri Lanka as an affordable leisure travel destination for people in Kolkata who want to holiday in Colombo during the puja vacations.

Unveiling the ‘tactical consumer trade promotion’ for the Sri Lanka Tourism Board (SLTB), he said that Sri Lanka now enjoyed destination connectivity from as many as 10 Indian cities.

Describing the offer as a value for money proposition, he said that it offered two nights and three days stay along with return airfare, bed and breakfast for Rs 9,999.

Ms Madhuri Verma, Destination Manager, SLTB, said: “Travellers from the region can enjoy a mix of beaches, hills, unique tradition and culture, and also explore world heritage sites.”
