Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 20 The survey to collect the details of those below the poverty line (BPL) living in the urban areas of Kerala has begun.
The Minister for Local Administration, Mr Paloli Mohammed Kutty, said here on Monday that steps had been taken to make the survey comprehensive and flawless. The details would be collected in a time-bound manner.
He said that it was imperative for the success of the Eleventh Plan to identify all the poor families living in the urban areas as per the parameters laid down by the Government.
The city development projects and poverty alleviation schemes will be implemented by the Government and the municipalities on the basis of the survey report.
The employees of the Economics and Statistics Department have been deployed to conduct the survey and Kudumbasree and the IT Mission units will help put together the information.
Non-conventional energy
The Kerala Government will frame a non-conventional energy policy soon, the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. M. Vijayakumar, said on Monday.
He said that though there had been umpteen studies done in the State in the area of non-conventional energy, they had not translated into practice. There was an urgent need to bring non-conventional energy generation into the mainstream of development plans.
The Minister was inaugurating the state-level ‘Akshaya Energy Day’ organised by the Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT).
The Member of the Planning Board, Mr P.V. Unnikrishnan, said that energy generation programmes would be formulated in all the districts under the guidance of the Energy Security Mission.
