Chennai, Aug. 20

“We are living in an exciting time. In globalised India, opportunities are limitless. Skill sets that were not even considered years ago, have become crucial now; and one has to prepare for this changing world,” Mr S. Gopal, Deputy Managing Director of Sanmar Speciality Chemicals Ltd, told students of the Institute for Financial Research and Management (IFMR).

He addressed a seminar on ‘Passion for Excellence’, organised under the aegis of BL Club, in the institute. Encouraging students to explore all possibilities to succeed in one’s endeavour, he said setting new standards is the key to success.

New standards

To set new standards, one must understand the business he/she is in. “Holistically ensure that you honour your commitments to clients, be it the quality or delivery of service.”

To understand a business, one must have the ability to learn. In the process, one can afford to make mistakes. “Don’t afraid of making mistakes. It’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you don’t repeat them”.

The basic skill set required for a successful career is the can-do approach with a positive attitude. Apart from the ability to learn, one must possess the ability to work as a team and passion to excel. “Have confidence in yourself, only then you would be able to maximise whatever opportunity that comes your way,” he said.
