The Hindu Business Line : Govt plans to appoint consultant for MRO operations

New Delhi, Aug 23 The Ministry of Civil Aviation today decided to appoint a consultant for moving ahead with plans of setting up a maintenance, repairing and overhaul (MRO) operations after the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines.

In a review meeting on the merger of the two public sector airline companies, it was decided that the consultants would be asked to submit its report on MRO within four weeks, according to the Air India Chairman, Mr V. Tulasidas.

On the merger plan, he said that the formal clearance from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) was yet to come.

“Only after we receive the formal letter and file it with the Registrar of Companies, will the legal process of merger be completed,” he added.

He also said that post-merger, the new company will ask for exclusive terminals in new airports that are coming up.

“We have already informed the airports and authorities concerned that as national carrier and being the largest airline company we would like to have exclusive terminals in various airports,” he said.

While the merged entity is open to equity participation in new airports, it should not be a precondition for getting exclusive terminals, he added.
