The Hindu Business Line : Hyderabad pharma cluster to benefit from German Technical Corporation

Assistance in the form of access to technical, financial, marketing and training could be extended to the pharma companies, especially the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the near future.

Mr Kjell Olsen, Chief Technical Advisor to GTZ (SME financing and development) said “We are working with major Indian banks like SBI, ICICI, IDBI, SIDBI to support efforts to improve competitiveness among SME’s”.

“In Hyderabad, we would forge a cooperation with State Bank of Hyderabad . Our target is small enterprises and we will bring in the necessary interventions to help them,” he told representatives of SMEs at a workshop organised by GTZ here.

GTZ along with KFW of Germany, DFID of the UK with support from the World Bank are participating in a major Central Government initiative to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) called SME Financing & Development Programme.

An internationally practised tool called the Participatory Appraisal of Competitive Advantage (PACA), a registered product of Mesopartner Group, is being utilised to come up with a diagnosis of competitive advantages and dis-advantages of the clusters. Focus

GTZ is implementing projects in Indore, Dehradun, Delhi and Hyderabad. In Hyderabad, the focus would be on pharma, IT & ITES, garments and Pochampalli, said Mr KV.L. Narasimham of GTZ in his introductory remarks.

Speaking the inaugural function of the 8-day workshop, Mr M. Narayana Reddy, President of the Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association (BDMA), said pharma sector in Andhra Pradesh requires a renewed push from the State Government.
