CBDT gets new member

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has a new member Mr N.B. Singh.

Mr Singh, who was appointed to the Board recently, has been made in-charge of personnel and vigilance matters, official sources said. He would also hold the zonal charge of Mumbai region, which accounted for about 33 per cent of the Centre’s direct tax collections in the last three years.

Hitherto, the CBDT Chairman, Mr B.M. Singh, was holding additional charge of personnel and vigilance (P&V).

Another CBDT member, Mr R.S. Mathoda, who is Member (A&J) and Member (IT), will hold zonal charges of Northern and Western Zones.

At present, the CBDT is in full strength with a Chairman and six members. For the financial year 2007-08, the Centre has budgeted direct tax collections at Rs 2,67,490 crore.
