Outlook Marketing - Retailing TVS to focus on retail expansion
Mayur N. Shah Mumbai, Aug. 27 Sales have plummeted in recent times for most of the players in the local two-wheeler industry. TVS Motor Co, one of the leading players in the segment, has been facing similar problem with sales dropping to 1,05,386 units in July 2007 as compared to 1,21,462 units for the same period last year. The company is now gearing up to focus on sales more aggressively than ever before. It has plans to increase its existing chain of 1,500 service stations and 550 dealers to a combined new total of 3,000 retail outlets in a span of three years said senior officials. The existing chain of service stations will soon become retail outlets too. Each one of these outlets will have a sales point, thus generating additional sales, said senior officials. Besides these existing outlets (2,000), an additional lot of 1,000 new dealerships will form part of the new chain of dealerships, thus covering the country at large. New models
These dealerships will play an instrumental role for the company when it launches 11 models by the end of this month. Four of these models will be completely new, while the remaining would be variants of existing models. Of these models, the Apache RTR and the Neo have been already launched. The remaining two models to be launched would cater to the 100 cc and 125 cc motorcycle segment. In the scooter segment, an electric model is in the pipeline and is likely to be launched by the end of this month, said senior officials. According to a media report, the company expects motorcycle sales to touch 90,000 units by October-end. It sold 44,392 units in July. The company shares listed on BSE closed on Monday at Rs 60.50, an increase of 5.86 per cent over the previous close.
