Human Resources Accenture on course to hit 35,000-headcount
Anjali Prayag Bangalore, Aug. 27 With about 35,000 people expected to be on its rolls, India will be the largest geography for Accenture worldwide by the end of this month. Mr Rahul Varma, Senior Vice-President, Accenture India, told Business Line that Accenture India is well on its way to meeting the 35,000-people target set early this year. “We have always been on target and have achieved whatever we are committed to,” he said. August has been a HR month for Accenture India. The company declared it a ‘Careers Month’ by creating a specific interactive medium to communicate what the company has to offer potential employees and how they will be able to fit into Accenture’s culture. Accenture has been trying to reach to India’s potential employable pool through innovative routes. In June this year, the company set up a micro-site called the Accenture Zone that sold tickets online for a rock concert. It provided a link to the Accenture careers Web site where potential visitors to the site had access to information on various career opportunities within Accenture India and at the same time could download music and videos of the popular Aerosmith rock group. On Saturday, the first batch of the Accenture XLRI Academy comprising 30 HR managers graduated to various roles within the company. The academy is a 24-month work-study programme developed jointly by the company with the B-school to impart industry-relevant skills with academic fundamentals. This programme has created a new talent pool with skills relevant to the industry, Mr Varma said. And no, he’s not worried about losing ‘precious’ HR talent to competition. “There is no upfront commitment for them to stay on, but even if they go, we have realised our return on investment. Moreover, the industry would benefit.”
