Rice procurement target for AP

Hyderabad, Aug. 27

The Union Government has set a procurement target of 62 lakh tonnes of rice for the year 2007-08 for Andhra Pradesh as against 60 lakh tonnes last year. Last year, the State achieved 86 per cent of the target by procuring 53 lakh tonnes of rice. The State procured 1.07 crore tonnes of paddy. Reviewing the activities of Civil Supplies Department, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, said of the 53 lakh tonnes, 42 lakh tonnes was being utilised for public distribution system. The remaining stocks were exported to other States. - Our Bureau
