Chennai, Aug. 30 Usha Sridhar wanted to donate money but could not find the right beneficiary. When her endowment to a school did not see the light of day, she decided to set up a social investment entity that would connect individual donors like her with the needy.
This January she set up The Interface, a social investment management firm, focusing on non-corporate donations. Run as a project of Madurai-based Saradha Foundation, the firm currently has 25 donors.
Its advisory board comprises Mr L. Lakshman (industrialist), Mr Arun Bewoor (technocrat), Mr N. Murali (The Hindu), and danseuse Ms Sudharani Raghupathy among others. The Interface has designed multiple schemes to channelise donations among different needy groups belonging to ten categories. For example, a donation of Rs 10,000 can be split between supporting a patient for a month and a child’s education needs.
The entity has tie ups with 28 NGOs, including Sankalp, Udhavum Karangal, Akshaya Trust (Madurai), Citizen Development Centre, Doast, Kamadhenu Trust, and Isha Foundation.
