National network for farmers launched

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Aug. 31 Initiating a dialogue with the rural communities, CII’s Yi (Young Indians) has launched National Farmers Network that seeks to disseminate knowledge on best practices by roping in progressive farmers.

“The idea is to shock the farmers by exposing them to success stories and best practices,” Mr Rahul Mirchandani, Chairman of Yi’s Youth Affairs and Executive Director of Aries Agro, told Business Line.

The network was launched during the second edition of Agro Max Conference held here on Friday. Mr Jayadev Galla, Yi National Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Amara Raja Batteries, formally launched the network.

The Yi has big plans for the network.

“We target to rope in 5,000 progressive farmers from across the country this year. Over the next three years, the number would grow to 10,000,” Mr Rahul, whose Aries Agro promotes the network, said.

“We will provide them with a platform where they can interact with the industry, government, scientists, universities and students. Seeing is believing. If they see what others have done, it will give them the confidence that they can emulate the examples,” he said.

SMS alerts

The farmers would also get SMS alerts on weather updates and prices of major agricultural commodities.

On its part, Aries Agro set up a Corporate Chapter for the specific purpose of providing access to young, progressive farmers to the wide spectrum of Yi Farmers’ Network activities.
