Kolkata, Sept. 1

The Government is working for the success of the mechanism on the Indo-US nuclear deal set up to address the concerns raised by the Left parties, the Minister for External Affairs, Mr Pranab Mukherjee said today.

“We are working for the success of the mechanism (for which a committee would be formed),” Mr Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on SAARC here.

The decision to form the UPA-Left Committee was announced on Thursday to study the implications of the 123 Agreement in view of certain concerns of the government’s allies. The agreement will be operationalised taking into account findings of the Committee.

To a question Mr Mukherjee said the government was ready to discuss the civil nuclear deal in Parliament.

“We are committed to a debate in Parliament on the Indo-US nuclear deal,” he said but refused to say anything further on the issue as Parliament is in session.
