Research & Development States - Andhra Pradesh Agricultural innovation project calls for proposals in 2nd round

Kurmanath Hyderabad, Sept. 2 The National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP), a World Bank-funded programme, has called for proposals under the second round, seeking to find solutions for the agricultural and livelihood issues using innovative technologies. A Rs 1,200-crore programme, NAIP works under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The World Bank extends four-fifths of the amount as credit, while the Union Government contributes the remaining part. “We are expecting 35-40 unique and innovative proposals from the districts and States that are not covered in the first round,” Dr Mruthyunjaya, National Director of NAIP, told Business Line. The first round covers the 150 backward districts that were identified by the Planning Commission under the National Food for Work programme. Dr Mruthyunjaya was here in connection with the launch of a NAIP-supported project, being taken up by the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture. “Some States like Uttar Pradesh, Orissa and Punjab were not covered in the first round. Also, there may be proposals from those districts that were not covered. The last date for submission of proposals (through the internet) is October 12,” he said.
