General Insurance Industry & Economy - Health UI to withdraw mediguard insurance policy
Our Bureau Kochi, Sept. 5 The public sector general insurer United India Insurance Co Ltd would be withdrawing its ‘mediguard’ health insurance policy with effect from September 15, according to company sources. After this date, there would be ‘Platinum’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Senior Citizens’ health insurance policies only, they said. The company has also offered health insurance for persons in the age group of 61 to 80 years. According to Mr P.P. Mohanan, State Vice-President, General Insurance Officers All India Association, ‘mediguard’ policy for which the claim is settled directly by the insurance company was introduced due to complaints over poor services of some of the Third Party Administrator (TPA) companies. Even though the policy is being withdrawn, the existing policyholder need not accept the services of a TPA while transferring to the new health policies, Mr Mohanan said. Moreover, the policyholders would be allowed a discount of five per cent in the new health insurance premium, if they do not avail themselves of the services of the intermediary i.e. TPA, he added.
