People K.C. Jena, new UIC Chairman
New Delhi, Sep 6 Mr K.C. Jena, Chairman, Railway Board, has also taken over as the Chairman, International Union of Railways (UIC), a body that promotes rail transportation world-over. Mr Jena will be the Chairman of UIC till December 2008. The Indian Railways has played an important role in UIC’s restructuring to transform it to a truly global institution. As part of the restructuring, six regional units of UIC have been formed and UIC-Asia will be headquartered at New Delhi, said a n official release issued here on Thursday. The Railways will facilitate the setting up of the UIC-Asia regional units. Indian Railways will also provide all assistance for the International Railway Strategic Management Institute that would come up at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The organisation provides a forum to different Railway organisation in the world to undertake joint research projects, develop strategies for implementation of international projects like inter-continental freight corridors, and high speed rail. — Our Bureau
