Our Bureau Kolkata, Sept. 8 Durgapur Steel Plant has recorded the best-ever monthly production of special steels since inception in August. Last month, the plant produced 44,000 tonnes of special steels, which comprised 29 per cent of the total saleable steel production, reflecting a growth of 56 per cent over that achieved in the corresponding period of last year. According to a communication received from the company, the special steels production in August surpassed the previous best figure of 42,134 tonnes achieved in July. It states that, during August, plain carbon earthquake resistant TMT billets were successfully cast for the first time through continuous casting route for rolling in merchant mill. Best-ever performance
Last month, the steel plant recorded its best-ever performance in the production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel at 1,74,113 tonnes, 1,56,235 tonnes and 150,312 tonnes, respectively. The production of crude steel and saleable steel stood at 102 per cent and 112 per cent, respectively.
