The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Wednesday directed the oil marketing companies and the Civil Supplies Department to release three lakh LPG connections during 2007-2008 and another six lakh connections in 2008-2009.
These will be released to families below the poverty line under the Deepam scheme.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Dr Reddy today reviewed the scheme with the officials of the Civil Supplies Department and oil marketing companies.
The Chief Minister, according to the statement, directed all the district collectors to provide the list of beneficiaries to the oil companies for providing the connections under the scheme.
He felt that the slow release of connections under the scheme was mainly due to inadequate equipment to supply these connections.
Instructions to oil cos
The Chief Minister said that the Union Government has been requested to issue instructions to the oil marketing companies to make available necessary equipment and speed up issue of connections to the beneficiaries identified by the State.
