Call for database for policy making
New Delhi, Sept 18
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty
Alleviation, Ms Kumari Selja, on Monday
emphasised the need for creation of a strong database and
management information system (MIS) on urban
poverty, slums, housing, construction and other
urbanisation-related statistics for effective policy making.
The Minister was inaugurating national consultation on
`Database and MIS on urban poverty, slums and housing'
here. The Minister also released the guidelines for a new
plan scheme "Urban statistics for HR and assessments"
and user manual for Building Related Information And
Knowledge Systems (BRIKS), in the presence of Mr G.K.
Vasan, Union Minister of State for Statistics &
Programme Implementation, Prof. Suresh Tendulkar,
Chairman, National Statistical Commission, and Dr H.S.
Anand, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban
