Porsche unveils high-speed model at Frankfurt show

Speed king: India launch in March 2008; price: Rs 1.4 crore

Mayur N. Shah

Mumbai, Sept. 20 If you thought that the 911 Turbo was the fastest Porsche you ever drove and probably the most expensive among all Porsche models, think again. Porsche has just launched the most expensive and fastest 911 model – the new GT2 – at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

This mean machine, capable of top speeds of 204 mph, will be available in India from March 2008 onwards at a price of Rs 1.4 crore only!

“We have two discerning buyers who have placed their orders for the new 911 model,” said Mr Ian Reynolds, Managing Director, Porsche Centre New Delhi.

The new GT2 is the most powerful of all Porsches, with 530 horsepower churned out from the same six-cylinder boxer engine of the Turbo model – that’s 50 bhp more than the Turbo variant.

Besides the most powerful model to be introduced shortly in India, Porsche has plans to introduce additional variants to its existing range of the popular Cayenne and Cayman models.

The Cayenne GTS and the Cayman S Design Edition will be introduced by next year, said Mr Reynolds.

The new Cayenne model will be priced and positioned between the Cayenne S and Turbo models.

Its uniqueness lies in the specially developed chassis with a permanent all-wheel drive.

The Cayman S Design Edition is a limited edition model.

Globally, 777 units would be manufactured to commemorate 35 years of a unique design that Mr Ferdinand Porsche created at the Porsche Design Studio. Called the Chronograph 1, it’s a special timepiece in a stylish black finish.

Of the 777 units, only one is made available for the Indian market.

Mr Reynolds said that the vehicle would cost about Rs 62 lakh, with certain optional equipment as per the individual choice of the customer.

The limited edition model will be honed with solid black colour and matte black design stripes.

Perhaps the vehicle’s most unusual standard accessory is the briefcase that comes with every vehicle, containing a quartz chronograph, pocket knife, pair of sunglasses, writing pen and key ring, all created by Porsche Design.
