Our Bureau

Kolkata, Sept. 20 Adani Power Ltd (APL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd, has awarded a turnkey contract for setting up the second phase of the proposed 2,640-MW coal based power plant at Mundra to Shandong Electric Power Corporation (SEPCO III) of China.

The company is now implementing phase-I of the project involving setting up of four 330-MW (1,320-MW) coal based units. The project is implemented on a non-turnkey basis and is slated to be commissioned in a phased manner beginning 2008.

In the second phase, the company proposed to set up 2 X 660 MW (1,320-MW) generation capacity plant. The project is expected to be implemented in 2011. It has entered into an EPC (engineering procurement and construction) contract with SEPCO in early September.

According to company sources, the group has already secured open cast coal mining right in a block in Indonesia. The mining activity will be synchronised with the commissioning of the phase-I of the power project.

Adanis are one of the largest third party importers of coal in India.
