Waters India turns 20, sees strong growth

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Sept. 21 US lab solutions company Waters will continue to expand its initial service and support infrastructure into application and technology solutions, according to its worldwide President, Mr Art Caputo.

He has just completed a four-day visit covering Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi to mark the company’s 20 years of presence in the country.

The $1.28-billion Waters is associated in the country with major pharma companies, food safety and environmental agencies like APEDA, MPEDA, CFTRI, Vimta and other labs.

Production status

According to Mr K.V. Venugopalan, President, Waters (India) Pvt Ltd, “The analytical industry is probably one of the fastest growing segments in India mainly on account of growth in the pharmaceutical industry and contract research laboratories. However, no sophisticated instruments are currently manufactured in India. Encouragement from the Government would certainly go a long way in making India self-reliant in the coming years.”

A release quoting Mr Caputo, who was in Bangalore on Wednesday, said, “Long before there was any immediate financial return, Waters recognised and supported India’s goal of becoming a global research, pharmaceutical and chemical analysis leader. Our investments throughout these 20 years in India in service and support locally have led to strategic partnerships that have benefited not only Waters but have been integral in many of the local companies achieving global recognition.”
