IPR Industry & Economy - Science & Technology States - Andhra Pradesh AP move for spl IP cells Our Bureau Hyderabad, Sept. 23 The Department of Science and Technology plans to set up specialised cells and centres of excellence in areas such as protection of intellectual property, aimed at strengthening its outreach programme. Dr T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), while chairing the sixth governing body meeting of Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Council (APTDC) in Hyderabad, said the department had developed national outreach missions in priority areas such as municipal solid waste, bamboo applications and intellectual property rights. APTDC functions as a centre of excellence in the State. He emphasised the need to inculcate social responsibility in technology initiatives to ensure widespread benefits for all sections of society. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has announced that it plans to ensure social equity in national technology and intellectual property rights issues. PartnershipAPTDC in partnership with premier academic institutions in technology and law will launch a Certificate Training Course in IPR to foster skill enhancement and generate employment opportunities. It will play a proactive role in technology interventions for small and medium enterprises. APTDC is evolving into a national centre of excellence in technology and IPR. This model has attracted the attention of other states and CII has already established the Tamil Nadu Technology Development and Promotion Centre. It is in advanced talks West Bengal and North-Eastern states. APTDC has executed registration (protection) of Pochampally Ikat, Kondapally toys, silver filigree work, and Genome Valley mark to name a few.
