Real Estate & Construction States - Tamil Nadu Green Building Congress concludes Our Bureau Chennai, Sept. 23 The Green Building Congress 2007, the four-day exhibition and seminar on green buildings – buildings that save on energy, water and provide an ideal internal environment – saw the participation of over 80 organisations which showcased over 60 eco-friendly and energy efficient products. Leed ratingAccording to a release from the organiser the Confederation of Indian Industry, the event, which concluded today, is part of an awareness building exercise to encourage green buildings. During the course of the event, the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) India core and Shell rating system was formally launched and nine buildings in India were awarded the LEED rating. The exhibition attracted over 4,000 visitors. The CII through its CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, a joint initiative of the Andhra Pradesh Government, Godrej & Boyce and the technical support of USAID, is spearheading the green building movement in India. Dr Prem C. Jain, who heads the council, said that the concept of green-building has gained a firm footing in India. From about 16,000 sq ft of green building space in 2003, it has grown to 25 million sq ft would touch a 100 million sq ft next year.
