‘Focus on green economy for social welfare’

Our Bureau

Mangalore, Sept. 25 Magma 2007, an intercollegiate management fest, organised by Srinivas Institute of Management Studies, Mangalore, began on Saturday with a call to focus on green economy for the welfare of society.

Inaugurating the fest, Mr A.G. Pai, Chief Operating Officer of Mangalore Special Economic Zone Ltd, highlighted the need for environmental planning before the establishment of industries. In the case of mega industries, it requires two years for environmental planning. It is essential for them to choose the latest technology and then do a rapid environmental analysis and rapid risk study. This requires the knowledge of baseline data of the area, he said.

“Wherever you go for greening, you save money,” he said, adding that there will be no happiness if the technology is not compatible to green economy.

Garbage recycling

Stressing the need to think about garbage recycling in society, he said it would help bring down the dependence on fossil fuels. This would lead to the development of green economy.
