Railways Proposal for port connectivity Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has a proposal for a SPV (special purpose vehicle) for the implementation of a port connectivity project between Surat and Hazira port in Gujarat. The length of the connectivity will be about 35 km and the estimated cost of the project is Rs 180 crore to be funded 50 per cent by RVNL and the balance 50 per cent by Essar Group, Hazira port, Gujarat Government’s industrial promotion agency and Kribhco together. The issue of land acquisition, however, is yet to be sorted out. While Gujarat Government has agreed to provide land, a firm commitment from Kribhco which also is to provide land is still awaited. The Railway sources, however, are hopeful of settlement of the issue within a month or two. RVNL, it might be noted, has already floated four SPVs, namely: Kutch Railway Co Ltd (301 km, Rs 500 crore), Haridaspur-Paradip Railway Co Ltd (82 km, 598 crore), Krishnapatnam Railway Co Ltd (113 km, Rs 588 crore) and Bharuch-Dahej Railway Co Ltd ( 62 km, 198 crore).
