Insurance Compulsory training for handlers The TT club, the marine insurance group, has called for compulsory training for the handlers of dangerous goods on land before shipments by sea.It should be enforced under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, according to reports in Shipping Gazette. HAZARDOUS GOODS Industry figures show that between 5 and 10 per cent of an average container ship'spayload is made up of declared hazardous goods. According to Clarksons, 10 per cent of 116 millionTEUs transported in 2006 were declared as dangerous containers. What causes concern is that the loss of life, damage to vessels and destruction of goods caused by badlypacked, and inaccurately labelled hazardous cargo - which continues to be at unacceptable levels.
