Hyderabad, Oct. 1 A rural empowerment project of the IT services provider Satyam Computer has won the Asian Corporate Social Responsibility Award under the poverty alleviation category.

An initiative of the Byrraju Foundation, a NGO promoted by the Satyam Founder and Chairman, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, it is dedicated to rural transformation.

The scheme covers services in health care, education, livelihoods, sanitation and drinking water.

The award was presented to the Satyam representative at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, last week.

The GramIT initiative has brought about transformation in rural areas by harnessing the power of educated and unemployed villagers who are imparted special training by Byrraju Foundation and are hired to work in rural business process outsourcing facilities.

They manage a broad range of critical business processes for numerous clients, including Satyam.
