Ashesh Kumar Sarkar passes away

Kolkata, Oct 1

Mr Ashesh Kumar Sarkar, Chairman of Standard Publicity group of companies, passed away on September 28 at the age of 72, bringing to an end an era in advertising in Kolkata.

Born on June 8, 1935, he did his Masters Mathematics and embarked on a career in teaching at Bangabasi College. However, his interest soon veered towards advertising and this career took shape with the acquisition of a share of Standard Publicity Society, which is now known as Standard Publicity Pvt Ltd, the flagship of the Standard Group of Companies.

Ashesh Sarkar was always a maverick and played the game by his own rules, which led to a spate of acquisitions over the years which included Orient Publicity Service (P) Ltd, ECW Publicity (P) Ltd, Campaign Advertising Services (P) Ltd, Press & Publicity Syndicate (P) Ltd and Panorama. - Our Bureau
