N.K. Kurup London, Oct. 1 Tata Motors may relaunch Indica cars in the UK and European markets directly, Mr S.A. Hasan, Managing Director, Tata Ltd UK, the British arm of the Tata Group, said on Monday. The Tatas earlier had a tie-up with MG Rover to market the cars under the brand name CityRover. Mr Hasan said that CityRover failed in the UK market mainly because of the pricing strategy. “It was a good car, easy to get in and get out, and many people liked it, but it did not take off due to inappropriate pricing,” he said. “We will have to develop a dealer network before relaunching the car,” he said. He hinted that Tata Motors may wait till the bidding process for Land Rover and Jaguar is over. When asked about the technical issues that affected CityRover sales in the UK market, he said those issues will be sorted out. Mr Hasan was speaking to a group of visiting journalists from India at the company’s UK headquarters, Branded footwearMr Hasan said Tatas Leather also may launch branded footwear through Tata International. This could be done either under the Tata brand or through acquisitions by Tatas Leather. There is a large market for footware in the UK, he said. The retail market for footwear in the UK is estimated at $7.7 billion. More Stories on : Outlook | Strategy | Cars | Tata Motors Ltd
